For 1975 I will pick the Willie Nelson song “Blue Eyes Crying In The Rain,” because hey I was four years old, I have blue eyes, and I am sure I cried in the rain at least one that year… Or at least it is likely. It is interesting how children cry so much. Willie is the master of tears, so many of his songs embrace the feeling of sadness and because of that they probably give comfort to many who feel the same but do not have an outlet to express it. This one is as sad as it gets. Someone remembering saying goodbye to someone else forever, now they are old and they never found love again, their only hope is that when they die they will be reunited with their loved one. Geeze. How depressing can you be? I think the appropriate reaction is to comfort the singer, and therefore we comfort ourselves in the process. But at the same time recognize that there really are some moments in life we carry with us forever. I love Willie Nelson.

In the twilight glow I see
Blue eyes cryin’ in the rain
When we kissed goodbye and parted
I knew we’d never meet again

Love is like a dyin’ ember
Only memories remain

Through the ages I’ll remember
Blue eyes cryin’ in the rain

Some day when we meet up yonder
We’ll stroll hand in hand again

In a land that knows no partin’
Blue eyes cryin’ in the rain
Blue eyes cryin’ in the rain
Blue eyes cryin’ in the rain
